The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), Asia's premier film event accredited by the FIAPF, is thrilled to announce the dates for its 35th annual edition, set to take place from Monday, October 24, to Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

This year, the festival will once again immerse audiences and industry professionals in the vibrant heart of Tokyo, centering its activities around the Hibiya-Yurakucho-Ginza area.

Building on the success of last year's revitalized format, the 35th TIFF promises another exceptional cinematic experience, showcasing a diverse lineup of films from around the globe. Key venues will include TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, TOHO Cinemas Chanter, Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho, and Marunouchi Piccadilly, among others, ensuring a wide array of screening opportunities.

Competition Categories and Awards

The core of the 35th Tokyo International Film Festival remains its commitment to discovering and celebrating outstanding cinematic talent. The main competitive sections will feature:

  • Competition: This flagship section welcomes feature films (including animation and documentaries) from around the world that have not yet been released in Japan. Films compete for the prestigious Tokyo Grand Prix, along with awards for Special Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Artistic Contribution (covering elements like photography, sound, art direction, music, and script).

  • Asian Future: This section is dedicated to showcasing promising up-and-coming Asian directors who have helmed no more than three feature-length films, offering a vital platform for the next generation of Asian cinema.

Other non-competitive sections, including World Focus and Japanese Cinema Now, will highlight acclaimed works and contemporary trends in filmmaking.
