Singapore International Film Festival Announces Dazzling Lineup and Esteemed Jury for 35th Annual Edition

The 35th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) today announced its official film selections for the Asian Feature Film Competition and the distinguished members of its international juries. From November 28 to December 8, 2024, SGIFF will present a compelling program of 105 films from 45 countries, reaffirming its commitment to showcasing diverse cinematic voices.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Emily J. Hoe and Programme Director Thong Kay Wee, the 35th SGIFF continues to be a beacon for Asian and Southeast Asian cinema. The festival's comprehensive program includes sections like 'Singapore Panorama,' 'Horizon,' 'Foreground,' 'Standpoint,' and 'Landmark,' offering audiences a rich tapestry of global storytelling.
Asian Feature Film Competition: A Showcase of Emerging Talent
The Asian Feature Film Competition, a centerpiece of the Silver Screen Awards, features nine bold new cinematic visions by emerging Asian directors debuting their first to third feature films. These selections collectively capture the vibrant pulse of Asian cinema today.

"Crocodile Tears" (Indonesia, France, Singapore, Germany) directed by Tumpal Tampubolon
"Edge of Night" (Germany, Turkey) directed by Türker Süer
"The Great Phuket" (France, Hong Kong, China, Germany, Belgium) directed by Liu Yaonan
"Happyend" (Japan, United States) directed by Neo Sora
"Mongrel" (France, Singapore, Taiwan) directed by Chiang Wei-liang and Yin You-qiao
"Time to Be Strong" (South Korea) directed by Namkoong Sun
"Việt and Nam" (Philippines, Singapore, France, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Vietnam) directed by Minh Quý Trương
The Esteemed Juries
SGIFF is honored to welcome a distinguished panel of international film luminaries who will serve on the Silver Screen Awards juries:
Silver Screen Award for Asian Feature Film Jury:
Ossama Mohammed (Jury President): A highly respected Syrian film director, scriptwriter, and educator, whose bold and often banned films offer incisive critiques of society.
Mariana Gaivão: A Portuguese filmmaker and editor, known for her critically acclaimed short films and collaborations with renowned directors.
Lou Ye: One of China's most prominent contemporary directors, celebrated for his visually striking and emotionally complex films that often explore forbidden love and social issues.
Santosh Sivan: An acclaimed Indian cinematographer, director, and producer, a founding member of the Indian Society of Cinematographers, and the first Asian to join the American Society of Cinematographers.
Sofia Jane: A veteran Malaysian actress, recognized for her powerful performances across film and television.
FIPRESCI Award Jury:
Daniela Urzola: A respected film critic.
Jason Tan Liwag: A scientist and curator with a keen interest in cinema.
Timmy Chih-Ting Chen: An assistant professor and film academic.
Silver Screen Award for Southeast Asian Short Film Jury:
May Adadol Ingawanij: A distinguished writer and professor specializing in Southeast Asian cinema.
Sung Moon: A film programmer with extensive experience in Asian film festivals.
Yosep Anggi Noen: An award-winning Indonesian film director known for his unique storytelling.
