The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), a leading international film event, is pleased to announce the schedule for its 37th annual edition. The festival will run from Monday, October 28, to Wednesday, November 6, 2024, once again taking place in the cinematic heart of Tokyo, across the Hibiya-Yurakucho-Marunouchi-Ginza area.
The 37th TIFF is poised to deliver another captivating program, building on its tradition of showcasing exceptional films and fostering cultural exchange. This year's festival will utilize a range of premier venues, including Marunouchi TOEI, Marunouchi Piccadilly, Toho Cinemas Hibiya, Yurakucho Yomiuri Hall, Kadokawa Cinema Yurakucho, Humantrust Cinema Yurakucho, Cine Switch Ginza, and Toho Cinemas Chanter.
The 37th Tokyo International Film Festival continues its dedication to recognizing outstanding cinematic achievements through its competitive sections:
Competition: This primary section accepts feature films (fiction, documentary, and animation) from around the world that have not yet had their Japan Premiere. Films will compete for the esteemed Tokyo Grand Prix, along with awards for Special Jury Prize, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and Best Artistic Contribution.
Asian Future: This competitive section highlights the first, second, or third feature films by emerging Asian directors, including those from Japan and the Middle East. The top film in this category will receive the Asian Future Best Film Award.
This year, the festival is excited to introduce a new Women's Empowerment Section, collaborating with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to feature films by female directors and host discussions on women's roles in cinema. We are also thrilled to announce that acclaimed Hong Kong actor and singer Tony Leung will serve as the Jury President for the International Competition, and Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi will be this year's Festival Navigator.
The festival will open with "11 Rebels" and conclude with "Marcello Mio," setting the stage for a diverse and engaging program.
