34th Singapore International Film Festival Unveils Official Selections and Distinguished Jury

The 34th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) today revealed its highly anticipated official selections for the Asian Feature Film Competition and the esteemed members of its international juries. Set to run from November 30 to December 10, 2023, this edition of SGIFF will showcase over 100 films from 50 countries, offering a rich and diverse cinematic experience.
Building on its legacy as Southeast Asia's longest-running film festival, the 34th SGIFF continues to champion groundbreaking Asian cinema and foster a vibrant film culture. This year's program features a compelling array of films across various sections, including 'Singapore Panorama,' 'Horizon,' 'Standpoint,' and 'Landmark,' promising a comprehensive look at contemporary global filmmaking.
The Asian Feature Film Competition features a strong lineup of films vying for top honors. This year, Singaporean directors have achieved a record-breaking number of selections in competition since 1997, with two co-productions and three feature film debuts.
The films competing are:
"A Journey In Spring" (Taiwan) directed by Tzu-Hui Peng and Ping-Wen Wang
"Critical Zone" (Iran, Germany) directed by Ali Ahmadzadeh
"Dreaming & Dying" (Singapore, Indonesia) directed by Nelson Yeo
"Hesitation Wound" (Turkey, France, Romania, Spain) directed by Selman Nacar
"Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell" (Vietnam, Singapore, France, Spain) directed by Phạm Thiên Ân
"Last Shadow at First Light" (Singapore, Japan, Philippines, Slovenia, Indonesia) directed by Nicole Midori Woodford
"Monisme" (Indonesia, Qatar) directed by Riar Rizaldi
"Morrison" (Thailand, France) directed by Phuttiphong Aroonpheng
"Snow in Midsummer" (Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore) directed by Chong Keat Aun
"The Tenants" (South Korea) directed by Yoon Eun-kyung
SGIFF is honored to welcome a distinguished panel of international film luminaries who will serve on the Silver Screen Awards juries:
Asian Feature Film Competition Jury:
Zhang Lu (Jury Head): An acclaimed Chinese-Korean film director and screenwriter, known for his contemplative and character-driven films that often explore themes of identity and displacement.
Bina Paul: A renowned Indian film editor and artistic director of the International Film Festival of Kerala, celebrated for her significant contributions to independent cinema.
Janice Koh: A highly respected Singaporean actress and arts advocate, recognized for her versatile performances across stage and screen.
Ayşe Polat: A distinguished German-Kurdish filmmaker, whose works often delve into complex social and political narratives.
Kong Rithdee: A prominent Thai film critic, writer, and programmer, known for his insightful analysis of Southeast Asian and world cinema.
FIPRESCI Award Jury:
V.K. Joseph: An influential Indian film critic and historian.
Müge Turan: A Turkish film critic and festival programmer.
Joyce Yang: A respected film critic and academic.
Southeast Asian Short Film Competition Jury:
Cho Hyun Jin: A South Korean film programmer and curator.
Shai Heredia: An Indian filmmaker and founder of the Experimenta India film festival.
Tan Bee Thiam: A Singaporean filmmaker and producer known for his innovative works.
