33rd Singapore International Film Festival Unveils Official Selections and Esteemed Jury

The 33rd Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) has proudly announced its full program lineup, including the highly anticipated official selections for the Asian Feature Film Competition and the distinguished members of its international juries. Running from November 24 to December 4, 2022, this edition of SGIFF will showcase a robust program of 101 films from 55 countries, marking a significant return to a full-scale physical festival experience.
This year's festival, under the leadership of Executive Director Emily J. Hoe and Programme Director Thong Kay Wee, emphasizes fresh and inclusive perspectives, reinforcing SGIFF's role as a vital platform for independent cinema in Southeast Asia and beyond. The diverse program spans various sections, including the newly introduced 'Altitude' and 'Horizon' categories, alongside 'Singapore Panorama,' 'Foreground,' 'Standpoint,' and 'Domain,' offering audiences a comprehensive cinematic journey.
Asian Feature Film Competition:
The Asian Feature Film Competition, a cornerstone of the Silver Screen Awards, features nine new films by directors making their first to third features. These films represent a vibrant cross-section of emerging Asian talent:
"Archaeology of Love" (South Korea) directed by Lee Wan-min
"Arnold Is a Model Student" (Thailand, Singapore, France, Netherlands, Philippines) directed by Sorayos Prapapan
"Autobiography" (Indonesia, France, Germany, Poland, Singapore, Philippines, Qatar) directed by Makbul Mubarak
"The Cloud Messenger" (India) directed by Rahat Mahajan
"Convenience Store" (Russia, Slovenia, Turkey) directed by Michael Borodin
"Gaga" (Taiwan) directed by Laha Mebow
"Joyland" (Pakistan) directed by Saim Sadiq
"Leonor Will Never Die" (Philippines) directed by Martika Ramirez Escobar
"Summer with Hope" (Canada, Iran) directed by Sadaf Foroughi

Asian Feature Film Competition Jury:
Lav Diaz (Jury Head): An internationally acclaimed Filipino auteur, known for his epic and contemplative films that often explore the social and political landscape of the Philippines. His works have garnered top awards at major festivals worldwide.
Dennis Lim: Artistic Director of the New York Film Festival, a highly respected programmer and critic with a keen eye for innovative cinema.
Kim Soyoung: A prominent South Korean film scholar and filmmaker, recognized for her critical insights into Asian cinema and her contributions to documentary filmmaking.
Ritu Sarin: An accomplished Indian filmmaker and producer, known for her independent films and documentaries, often made in collaboration with Tenzing Sonam.
Southeast Asian Short Film Competition Jury:
Khoo Gaik Cheng: A Malaysian academic and film scholar specializing in Southeast Asian cinema.
Lucky Kuswandi: An award-winning Indonesian filmmaker known for his distinctive narrative voice.
Tuan Andrew Nguyen: A Vietnamese-American artist and filmmaker whose works explore history, memory, and cultural identity.
